For Maryland, three wrestlers won individual titles and five earned automatic berths to the NCAA Championships Saturday. As a team, the Terps finished third with 48.5 points.

Asper, a two-time All-American, entered the tournament as the favorite at 174 and did not disappoint. In his opening match, Asper pinned Duke's Trey Adamson with 52 seconds remaining in the match to advance to the Saturday evening final.

In the championship bout, Asper faced off against Virginia's Jon Fausey. Asper used a takedown in the second period and tacked on an escape and riding time to earn a 4-2 decision. The victory gave Asper his second career ACC title, but first at 174. Asper won the 165-pound ACC title as sophomore in 2011.

Asper's victory set the stage for Sheptock at 184. The Northampton, Pa., native advanced to the finals with a dominant performance over North Carolina's Alex Utley in the semifinals. Sheptock earned bonus points for the Terps with an 11-1 major decision.

In the final, Sheptock and Virginia's Stephen Doty squared off. The junior tallied a takedown in each period and displayed strong defensive skills late in the bout to defeat Doty 7-2 and earn his second consecutive ACC championship. Sheptock won a conference title at 174 last season.

Boley was Maryland's final entry in the championship round. After knocking off Duke's Conner Hartmann, 3-1, in the semifinals with a third-period takedown, Boley dispatched of Virginia's Mike Salopek in the final.

After winning the 197-pound title in 2012, the junior continued his conference supremacy with a 7-2 decision. He led 3-0 after two periods added two takedowns in the final frame to win. Boley capped his performance with a celebratory backflip as time expired.

Geoffrey Alexander and Frank Goodwin were the two other Terrapins to earn automatic bids to Des Moines for the NCAA Championships. Alexander, ranked 12th nationally at 133, suffered two losses to begin the tournament. But the sophomore responded in the fifth-place match against UNC's Joey Ward. Alexander scored a late takedown in the third period to earn the win and spot in the national tournament.

Goodwin, in his first action since Jan. 19, secured his first trip to the NCAAs with a 9-0 major decision over Duke's Tanner Hough in the consolation semifinals to book his spot.

Virginia Tech won its first ACC title. The Hokies finished with 95.5 points. Virginia placed second with 90.5.
