COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland All-America 197-pound senior Hudson Taylor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after keying the Terrapins to one of the biggest dual wins in school history and capturing a tournament championship in his weight class last weekend.
Taylor was crucial in the 10th-ranked Terps' 18-17 road victory over No. 4 Cornell on Friday night. With only two matches remaining and Maryland down 17-9, the third-ranked Taylor recorded a crucial pin of fifth-ranked Cam Simaz, bringing the team score to 17-15. Patrick Gilmore's overtime decision at heavyweight gave Maryland the 18-17 win.
The next day, Taylor took the 197-pound title at the Body Bar Invitational at Ithaca, N.Y., cruising through his first four matches before again dispatching of Simaz, this time by a 7-2 decision, in the finals. Taylor finished the weekend 6-0, winning five matches by pinfall. He now has 66 career pins and needs just four more to break the school record.
