COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team opened its dual against George Mason with falls in two of the first three matches on its way to a 32-10 victory over the Patriots at the Comcast Center on Saturday. Eleventh-ranked Steven Bell, ninth-ranked Alex Krom and Patrick Gilmore each registered falls en route to the victory.

"It was good, it was a good match," head coach Kerry McCoy said. "We're building our momentum towards the end of the year. It's good to be able to be in front of a home crowd and get a match like this under our belt as we gear up for two weeks from now and the ACCs."

Brendan Byrne got the Terps off to a good start when he held on for a 7-6 victory at 125, putting the team up 3-0. Following that, No. 11 Steven Bell made quick work of Denny Herndon, pinning him just 2:10 into the first round.

Next up, No. 9 Alex Krom was out to a commanding lead at 141, eventually pinning Mason's Ryan Watson with 45 seconds remaining in the match.

Maryland dropped three of the next four individual bouts, with only Brian Letters claiming victory. His technical fall came after building up a 17-2 lead with just under a minute to go in the final round.

All-American Hudson Taylor was up against ninth-ranked Cayle Byers for George Mason at 197. Byers had handed Taylor one of his six defeats in the season, but Taylor did not give Byers an opening this time. Taylor shut Byers out, earning a 5-0 decision to give Maryland a commanding 26-10 lead going into the final match.

Heavyweight Patrick Gilmore wasted little time in closing the dual down, powering Mason's Hunter Manspile to the ground in a pin just 1:28 into the first round.

Maryland will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they close out their home schedule against Virginia. The Terps and Cavaliers will grapple at 1:00 p.m. at the Comcast Center.
