Nate Carr Jr. was named a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Maryland wrestling team for the 2012-2013.

Carr Jr. comes to Maryland after a one-year stint as a volunteer assistant at the University of Virginia, where he helped coach two All-American competitors.

The Georgia native wrestled for three seasons at national power Iowa State and was a two-year starter at 149 and 157 pounds.

Carr. Jr also wrestled for two years at Iowa Central CC and won the 2007 National Junior College championship at 157 pounds.

Carr. Jr’s father, Nate Carr Sr., won three NCAA titles at Iowa State and a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
