As a Redshirt Junior (2014-15): Qualified for his third NCAA Tournament after a 14-win season…reached as high as No. 7 in the nation…defeated Garth Yenter of Michigan State 8-2 in the Big Ten Tournament (3/7)…pushed top-five Cory Clark (Iowa) in a 7-5 defeat (2/6)…took out No. 9 Mason Beckman of Lehigh, 2-1 (1/11) as a part of a three-match winning streak that included a major decision over Navy’s Zach Davis (1/11) and a tech fall over Ryan Osleeb of Harvard (1/9)…won two matches at the Midlands (12/29)…won matches over Bailey Jack (Duke) and Kyle Krasavage (Hofstra) at the Grapple at the Garden (12/21)…won five consecutive matches to start the year, including a win over No. 18 Eric Montoya of Nebraska (11/16).
As a Junior (2013-14): Served a redshirt season and ended the year 25-2, good for second on the team in wins … led the squad with 10 victories by way of fall … won four open tournaments … notched four victories to take home the Messiah Open crown … claimed the top spot at the Shorty Hitchcock Open … won the Cyclone Open in Ames, Iowa … started the season 5-0 en route to the Clarion Open title, defeating then No. 19 Sam Sherlock in the final.
As a Sophomore (2012-13): Finished 25-11 and a perfect 5-0 in ACC duals...NCAA qualifier and placed fifth at the ACC Championships...went 3-2 at the NCAA Championships...ranked second on the team with 17 dual victories...notched 13 bonus-point wins including eight by fall...had a team-high five pins in duals...recorded five wins over nationally-ranked opponents, defeating No. 6 Shelton Mack of Pittsburgh, 3-2; No. 8 Cashe Quiroga of Purdue, 9-3; No. 13 George DiCamilio of Virginia by fall; No. 17 Colin Johnston of West Virginia, 7-5; No. 18 Erik Spjut of Virginia Tech, 9-1...placed second at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic.
As a Freshman (2011-12): Went 22-12 at 133 pounds as a true freshman...runner-up at the ACC Championships earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships...named to the All-ACC team...tied for second on the team with six technical fall victories...placed third at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Invitational with a 9-7 decision over Clarion's Joe Waltko...won a 6-2 decision over then-No. 17 Nathan Pennesi of West Virginia in dual meet in Morgantown...earned Freshman of the Year honors at the team banquet.
Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner at Shady Side Academy...four-time Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and WPIAL Section 3-AA champion...placed four times at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) tournament...won the 2010 Super 32 Challenge at 125 pounds...finished fifth at the 2010 Walsh Jesuit Ironman at 125 pounds...finished seventh at the 2009 Walsh Jesuit Ironman at 119 pounds...125 pound runner-up at the 2010 Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament...third at 119 pounds at the 2009 Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament...fourth at 112 pounds at the 2008 Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament.
Personal: Son of Geoff and Vicki Alexander...oldest of four children, Justin, Jenne and Josh...father wrestled and played football at Clarion...graduated from Shady Side with a 3.0 GPA...majoring in criminology and criminal justice.
