ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Maryland wrestling squad (3-1, 0-0 ACC) lost its first match of the season Wednesday night, falling to Navy (6-4), 24-12, inside Halsey Field House. The Terps struggled in their fourth dual match of the year, taking three out of ten matches against the Midshipmen.
Junior Jake Stork (Mohrsville, Pa.) recorded his team-leading 14th pin of the season, dropping Thayer Paxton in 1:00 for his 22nd victory of the year. The 14 pins is also a career high for the 184-pounder. Joining Stork in the winner's column was senior Josh Weidman (Hershey, Pa.) who beat Luke Lazzo, 10-6, at 165-pounds for his 16th win of the season. Freshman Adam James (Silver Spring, Md.) notched his first dual match win of his Maryland career, decisioning Dan Hemminger, 16-11, at 149-pounds. James' win improves his record to 17-3 for the season.
Three-time ACC champion Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) dropped his match at 141-pounds, losing to Mark Conley by 10-3 decision. York now falls to 25-5 on the year. In the most exciting match of the night, redshirt sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Platte City, Mo.) lost his match to Steve Kovach, 7-5, in overtime.
The Terps will try and rebound this Saturday against ACC foe NC State in a 2 p.m. match in Raleigh, N.C.
