Terps Travel to Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland wrestling team (3-0) hits the road for the first time this season to participate in the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational in Brockport, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 12. Including Maryland, the event features five teams in InterMat's top-40, and 18 nationally ranked wrestlers.

The following Terps will compete in the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational: Shane Gentry (125), Jenkins Monzey (125), Geoffrey Alexander (133), Kenneth Collado (133), Lou Mascola (141), Frank Goodwin (141), Danny O'Malley (141), Ben Dorsay (149), Danny Orem (149), Domenic DeRobertis (157), Kyle John (157), Josh Asper (165), Nick Lobue (165), Jimmy Sheptock (174), Alex Pagnotta (184), Ty Snook (184), Christian Boley (197), Dallas Brown (197), Spencer Myers (285) and Frank Schaafsma (285).

Maryland will also be competing in the East Stroudsburg Open in East Stroudsburg, Pa. The following Terps will participate: Shane Arechiga (133) and Kyle Dehaut (165).

The Terrapins will also enter six unattached wrestlers: TJ Guidice (149), Brady Massaro (149), Sean O'Malley (149), Josh Snook (174), Tony Gardner (184) and Conor Wetzel (184).

125 Pounds

Gentry and Monzey went undefeated last weekend at the Terrapin Duals. Gentry picked up two wins, one major decision, and Monzey won by technical fall.

The bracket will feature Oklahoma All-American Jarrod Patterson ranked third by InterMat. Patterson finished 2011 with 29-9 record and placed seventh at the NCAA Championships.

133 Pounds

Alexander earned two victories last weekend with one coming by technical fall. Collado is 1-0 for the season with a 6-5 decision victory over Franklin & Marshall's Robert Ruiz.

The 133-pound draw features two-ranked wrestlers. No. 12 Jordan Keller of Oklahoma finished 18-11 last and was the runner-up at the 2010 Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational. No. 19 Jordan Thome of Army posted a 27-19 record in 2011 to lead the Black Knights in victories.

141 Pounds

Mascola earned his first collegiate victory against Paul Marcello of Johns Hopkins on Sunday with a 10-2 major decision. O'Malley won a 5-3 decision over Matt Rappo of Bloomsburg. Frank Goodwin will make his season debut at the event.

The 141-pound draw is headlined by three wrestlers ranked in the top-15. No. 7 Matt Mariacher of American won the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) championship in 2011 and finished with 33-9 record. No. 9 Kendric Maple of Oklahoma posted a team-high 33 wins for the Sooners last season, and Rutgers' Bill Ashnault enters the event ranked 14th.

149 Pounds

Ben Dorsay went 2-1 last weekend with two decision victories. Orem participated in the Clarion Open last Sunday and posted a 1-2 record.

Rutgers' Mario Mason is the top seed in the bracket. He is ranked fourth and won 28 matches last season. No. 16 Nick Lester of Oklahoma will also contend at 149.

157 Pounds

No. 15 John won two of three matches at the Terrapin Duals. John pinned Matt Fusaro of Johns Hopkins and earned a technical fall over Franklin & Marshall's Eric Norgard. DeRobertis will wrestle for first time this season.

Matt Lester of Oklahoma is the bracket's top seed. Lester was an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships in 2011 and finished the season 19-9.

165 Pounds

No. 3 Asper is seeded No. 1 at 165. Asper won all three matches at the Terrapin Duals. The junior opened the season with a pin of Johns Hopkins' Walt Mayfield 1:13 into the match. Lobue split four matches at the Clarion Open.

Asper will be challenged by No. 6 Scott Winston of Rutgers and No. 11 Bekzod Abdurakhmanov of Clarion. Winston won the EIWA championship and compiled a 21-5 record in 2011. Abdurakhmanov is a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) champion.

174 Pounds

Sheptock posted two victories last weekend to earn a spot in InterMat's top-25. Sheptock entered the rankings this week at No. 16.

Rutgers' Greg Zannetti will challenge Sheptock. Zannetti is ranked 18th and went 20-1 last season.

184 Pounds

Pagnotta and Snook went undefeated at the Terrapin Duals. Pagnotta won by major decision and Snook won his two matches by technical fall and decision.

No. 19 Erich Schmidtke of Oklahoma is the No.1 seed. Schmidtke went 25-13 last season and earned an automatic spot in the NCAA Championships.

197 Pounds

At the Terrapin Duals, Boley went 3-0 including a pin of Johns Hopkins Kyle Stauffer to open the season. Brown wrestled up at 285 and defeated Franklin & Marshall heavyweight Alex Henry by major decision.

No. 19 Daniel Rinaldi of Rutgers is the draw's No. 1seed. He won 24 matches in 2011 and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing third at the EIWA Championships.

285 Pounds

No. 3 Spencer Myers won a major decision against Bloomsburg's Zac Walsh in his only match of the Terrapin Duals. Schaafsma will make his collegiate debut in Brockport.

No. 16 Elijah Madison of Oklahoma transferred from Nebraska-Omaha where he was the NCAA Division II national champion.
