Terps Announce 2011-12 Team Captains

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team has selected seniors Kyle John and Corey Peltier, and junior Josh Asper as team captains for the 2011-12 season head coach Kerry McCoy announced Friday.

"I am very happy with our captains," said McCoy. "These guys represent the essence of our program. They are hard workers in the classroom, the wrestling room and in the community. These guys are the perfect group to lead us this year."

At 165 pounds, Asper finished the 2010-11 season with a team-leading 35-5 record and earned All-American status. The Parkton, Md., native won the ACC championship and was named ACC Wrestler of the Year.

John, an All-ACC selection in 2011, recorded 32 wins last season and finished second in the conference at 157 pounds earning a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

A 2011 All-ACC selection at 184 pounds, Peltier won his first conference championship last season and was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I Individual All-Academic team. Peltier finished the season with a 22-10 record.
