The University of Maryland women’s lacrosse program will be heavily represented when the 2013 FIL World Cup kicks off in Oshawa, Canada Thursday.
A total of 17 former Terrapins will be either suiting up to play for their respective countries or will serve as coaches in the world championship, held every four years. Australia boasts five former Maryland standouts, Canada has four, the United States has three, Wales has two and England, Ireland and Haudenosaunee each have one.
Team USA captured its sixth title in 2009 with the help of former Terps Caitlyn McFadden and Acacia Walker.
In addition to the former players from Maryland's women's team, Mike Lamonica of the men's squad is also coaching Australia.
