TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Mary Cushman had 11 kills and 12 digs and Sarah Harper posted 19 digs as the Maryland volleyball team fell to Florida State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-14), Friday night in Tully Gym.

Florida State’s balanced attack was too much for Maryland (10-7, 2-3) as the Seminoles committed just 17 errors on a .238 hitting percentage.

The host Seminoles gradually broke away from the Terps in the first set as they took a four point lead, 10-6. Maryland battled back with three consecutive points led by Catie Coyle, but Florida State (11-5, 4-1) held on for the 25-19 set victory.

The 'Noles carried their momentum into the second frame with a 9-5 early lead, but the Terrapins responded with four straight points on a Cushman kill and three consecutive FSU errors. Adreene Elliott gave the Terps a 22-21 lead with a critical kill, but the Seminoles took four of the final five points to take a 2-0 grasp on the match.

Maryland hoped to comeback from the 2-0 deficit as it had in its previous match against Virginia Tech, but the Seminoles had other ideas. Florida State broke the third set wide open with an 8-1 run as it closed the match, 25-19.

Julia Anderson and Amy Dion combined for 21 assists in the effort, while freshman Ashlyn MacGregor had five blocks.

Maryland will look to regroup before returning to action Sunday at 1:00 pm in Coral Gables against Miami.
