EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Junior Millie Stretton picked up a doubles win and a singles win, but the Maryland women's tennis team fell to Michigan State, 4-2, on Sunday.

Stretton helped clinch the doubles point for Maryland with a win at the top spot of Maryland's doubles lineup. She then picked up the Terps' singles win, winning 6-4, 6-2, at third singles.

Maryland benefited from strong doubles play to begin the match, and earned the doubles point to get the afternoon started. Saya Usui and Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka gave Maryland the edge early, winning 6-2 at the third doubles position.

After the Spartans won at second doubles, it came down to the top spot to determine who would win the first point of the match. Maryland's top duo of Stretton and Eva Alexandrova were able to emerge victorious, beating Michigan State's top pair by a score of 7-5.

The Spartans were able to even the score when singles play began, winning in straight sets at fourth singles. Stretton quickly answered, and put the Terps back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at third singles.

Michigan State was then able to rally back, winning three-consecutive matches to clinch the victory. The Spartans tied the score with a three-set win at first singles, and then secured victories at fifth and sixth singles to win the match.

The second singles match will be marked as unfinished.

Maryland will be back in action on Friday, Apr. 20, when it takes on Indiana at 2 p.m. at the Junior Tennis Champions Center. The Terrapins will then close out their regular season when they host Purdue on Sunday, Apr. 22. Maryland will honor its lone senior Ekaterina Tour following the completion of the match.
