Monroe, Chiriaco Fill New Roles in Maryland Athletics

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Chief development officer Cheryl Harrison announced on behalf of Maryland Athletics that Matt Monroe has been named Associate Athletic Director for Annual Giving and Ticket Operations and Laura Chiriaco has returned as Executive Director of the M Club and Director of Alumni Engagement.

Matt MonroeIn Monroe’s expanded role, he will lead the Terrapin Club annual giving team, directing the development of new strategies to grow the athletics donor base. Additionally, he will continue to oversee the ticket operations, sales and service units.

Monroe has served in multiple roles in athletics department since joining Maryland in 2008, most recently as the Associate Athletic Director for Ticket Sales & Operations the last three years. A graduate of Robert Morris University, Monroe has also spent time at Marshall University and the University of Pittsburgh.

"This is a well-deserved promotion for Matt who has worked tirelessly to advance Maryland Athletics the past decade while providing excellent leadership,” Harrison said. “Matt has fostered strong relationships with both our season ticket holders and donors and he is ready to meet the challenge of taking our annual giving and ticketing operations to the next level."

Laura ChiriacoChiriaco returns to Maryland as the Executive Director of the M Club and Director of Alumni Engagement after serving as an Account Specialist for Discovery Communications since July of 2015.

Chiriaco will serve as the M Club Board director, implementing a comprehensive engagement strategy for former student-athletes with the goal of increasing membership in the organization. Additionally, Chiriaco will plan and implement events for former student-athletes and alumni.

Chiriaco has strong ties to College Park, previously serving as the assistant director of development for two years, in addition to coaching the acrobatics and tumbling (competitive cheerleading) team. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Chiriaco earned a bachelor of arts in journalism.

"We're excited to welcome Laura back to our Maryland Athletics family,” said Harrison. “As a former student-athlete, coach and development officer, Laura has always been committed and passionate about her University. Her strong institutional knowledge will help lead the M Club to new heights."
