COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore guard Kevin Huerter scored 12 of his 22 points in the first five minutes as the Maryland men's basketball team started fast in a 73-57 win over Northwestern Saturday afternoon at XFINITY Center.

The Terps led wire-to-wire and led by as much as 21 in the second half. Maryland shot 27-for-51 (52.9 percent) from the field in one of the squad's most complete performances of the season. Huerter, sophomore guard Anthony Cowan Jr. and redshirt-junior guard Dion Wiley combined for eight three-point field goals.

"I think everybody that played today played really well," head coach Mark Turgeon said. "Kevin Huerter was fantastic and Anthony Cowan Jr. was terrific. Dion Wiley was terrific on both ends. Once we locked in it’s as good as we’ve played defensively. We played shots, we rebounded better in the second half. We just did some really good things. It should give us a lot of confidence moving forward.”

Defensively, Maryland held Northwestern senior guard Bryant McIntosh to zero points for the first time in his career.

Freshman guard Darryl Morsell had 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds for Maryland, which improved to 14-2 at home. Wiley hasda strong all-around performance with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Maryland returns to action Tuesday night at Nebraska. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen live on BTN and heard on the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
