COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland posted two wins Saturday as the squad opened play at the Maryland Invitational, knocking off Binghamton 5-4 and Buffalo 6-3 to move to 6-18-1 on the year. Freshman Anna Kufta led the way for the Terps at the plate, notching four RBIs on four hits including a walk off double to push the Terps to victory over Binghamton.

Maryland will be back in action tomorrow to play a pair of games vs. Binghamton (1:30 pm) and #12 James Madison (4:00 pm) at Maryland Stadium.

GAME 1

Anna Kufta came up clutch for the Terps in the bottom of the seventh, blasting a double to center field to deliver Maryland a walk off win over Binghamton in thee team’s first game of the day.

Madison Martin went the distance for the Terps from the circle, recording three strikeouts while not surrendering an earned run to help Maryland clinch the win.

Maryland opened the scoring in the second inning on a Kristina Dillard home run, and added another in the third on a RBI single from Kufta. Binghamton managed to come even in the fourth, scoring two on a hit and an error, but the Terps answered right back in the bottom of the frame on a RBI Brashear single.

The Bearcats took their first lead of the game in the sixth, as some errant play in the field turned into two runs for the visitors. The Terps responded to the pressure, manufacturing a run with an eventual RBI double from Hannah Dewey to tie in the sixth. 

GAME 2

Maryland used nine hits and solid defense to take out Buffalo 6-3 in the Saturday’s evening finale. Kufta was again the catalyst at the plate, knocking two RBIs on two hits while scoring a pair of runs. Dewey worked five innings from the circle for his second win of the season, while Madison Martin pitch two gritty frames to end the game for her second save of the year.

Maryland built up a 3-0 advantage after three innings, but the Bulls stuck around scoring a run in the top of the fourth to come within two. Up 4-2, the Terps added insurance runs on sixth inning RBIs from Kufta and Brashear.

Buffalo made some noise in the top of the seventh with a home run and an error to lead off, but Martin locked in from there with three consecutive outs to clinch the win for UMD.
