CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 11 North Carolina defeated the Maryland baseball team, 9-2, at Boshamer Stadium Tuesday night.

The Terrapins (9-6) saw their eight-game win streak come to an end at the hands of the Tar Heels, who scored eight runs in the first four innings. Sophomore Nick Dunn had Maryland’s lone RBIs on a two-run single in the third.

The Tar Heels bounced Maryland starter RHP Hunter Parsons after just one and two thirds innings. Zach Gahagan’s solo shot in the first represented the second run of the game, before North Carolina scored two more in the second.

The Terps grabbed a pair of runs in the third. Sophomore AJ Lee and junior Justin Morris were issued walks before moving up a base on a Zach Jancarski groundout. Dunn then slashed a single through the hole between first and second to bring around both runners.

The home team broke the game open in in the fourth, with Ashton McGee’s three-run homer doing most of the damage in a four-run frame.

In the sixth, the Terps put two on, but stranded runners on the corner when senior Madison Nickens struck out to end the inning. North Carolina grabbed a single run in the seventh

Maryland returns to action for a three-game home series against Princeton that begins Friday. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the contest can been watched live on BTN Plus or heard on the Maryland Baseball Network.
