NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Maryland Alumni Association hosted the seventh annual Maryland in Manhattan event with approximately 400 attendees on April 14 at Capitale in New York City’s Lower East Side.

The memorable evening raised support for the University of Maryland and alumni programming and outreach. Maryland in Manhattan is the University of Maryland's signature New York event. The evening of celebration and networking has become a Maryland tradition, drawing hundreds of alumni and friends, university leaders, faculty, deans and athletics coaches.

The evening featured cuisine from several of New York City's finest restaurants, a variety of spirits and an interactive art installation.

“This is a great event to be involved with seeing so many fans and alumni,” said head wrestling coach Kerry McCoy. “As a New York native, it’s always fun to come back home especially with so many Terps spending an evening together.”

William J. Fishlinger, Esq. ’71, Melissa Goidel ’86 and Mark Sobel, M.D. ’82 were honored as alumni of distinction at the event, while #1 New York Times best-selling author Joy Bauer ’86 served as the night’s master of ceremonies.

"Amy Eichhorst and the Alumni Association put on a great event in a spectacular setting,” said head volleyball coach Steve Aird. “It is inspiring to see so many successful people care so deeply about our school.  It was a privilege to attend and I will certainly return next year."

Attendees as this event included Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson, Alumni Association Executive Director Amy Eichhorst, women’s volleyball coach Steve Aird, men’s soccer coach Sasho Cirovski, field hockey coach Missy Meharg and wrestling coach Kerry McCoy.

The event was co-chaired Lauren Ciandella (Miller Klein Group), James Giangrande '90 (Altium Wealth Management, LLC.) and Tahj Holden '07 (Morgan Stanley, Men’s Basketball).
