Field Hockey Releases 2017 Slate

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team will face off against the toughest competition in the country in 2017, as the Big Ten champion Terrapins released their fall schedule Thursday.

The Terps will take on eight of the other 15 teams from last year's NCAA Tournament and 10 teams in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches poll from last season. Click here for the full schedule.

Maryland, which was ranked No. 2 in the final NFHCA poll of 2016, will host Penn State (No. 5), Louisville (No. 9), Northwestern (No. 13) and Princeton (No. 14) in College Park. The Terrapins will take on Duke (No. 1), Virginia (No. 7), Michigan (No. 10), Boston College (No. 11) and Iowa (No. 18) away from the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. They will play the 2016 national champion Delaware (No. 8) in an exhibition.

The Terps will open the season at home at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex vs. St. Joseph's on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.

The Terrapins will return to the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster, Pa. Labor Day weekend for the 3rd Annual Big Ten/ACC Cup. They will take on Duke and Boston College Sept 1 and 3, respectively.

Maryland will open its home slate with the Terrapin Invitational Sept. 8-10. The Terps will take on in-state opponent Towson on Friday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m., followed by Louisville and American facing off at 4 p.m. The Terps will face the Cardinals at 11:30 a.m. that Sunday, with American and Towson playing at 2 p.m.

The Terps will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to open Big Ten play Sept. 15 at Indiana. Later that weekend, the Terps will open a four-game home stand with a matchup vs. Bucknell, then will host Princeton in a midweek matchup Sept. 19. Maryland will welcome Iowa and Northwestern to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Sept. 22-24.

Maryland will close the month of September with a road game at Michigan on Sept. 29, then will play at Michigan State the following week on Oct. 6.

The Terps will host Liberty on Oct. 8, then Ohio State and Penn State Oct. 13 and 15 in College Park. They will close the regular season with a road trip to Virginia on Oct. 17 and at Rutgers on Oct. 22.

The first round of the 2017 Big Ten Tournament will be Oct. 29, then the following rounds Nov. 3-5 and will be played at campus sites, determined by seedings.

The NCAA Tournament will open Nov. 11-12 at campus sites. The NCAA Semifinals and Finals will be Nov. 17-19 in Louisville, Ky.

The Terrapins will play Temple in an exhibition on Aug. 17 and Delaware Aug. 19, both on the road.
