COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Executive Athletic Director Damon Evans announced Tuesday that women’s volleyball head coach Steve Aird has resigned, effective immediately, and has accepted the head coaching position at Indiana.

“We sincerely thank Steve for leading our program the past four seasons,” Evans said. "Steve has helped elevate our program, has created a winning culture and we are confident that we have the foundation to sustain long-term success for Maryland Volleyball.”

Aird compiled a record of 55-74 (.426) in his four seasons with the Terrapins, which included a mark of 18-14 in 2017.

“It has been a great honor and privilege to lead the Maryland volleyball program over the last four years,” Aird said. “I’m very encouraged about the strides we’ve made and the future of Maryland volleyball. I’m very proud of our student-athletes, who represented this program with great class and dignity both in the classroom, on the court and in the community. I’ll be forever grateful to Damon Evans, my coaching staff, our administration and our great fans for their continued support and encouragement. This was a gut-wrenching decision, but I feel like this was in the best interest for me and my family."

“With our recent recruiting success, including a top-10 class in 2017, we are excited that Maryland volleyball has emerged as a national player," Evans said. "We will immediately begin a national search and will work to find a dynamic leader to continue to move the program forward. We wish Steve, his wife Brandy, and their family the very best."
