LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Alexandra Lucki of the Maryland women’s cross country team is set to compete in her first career NCAA championship race Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky. The Toronto, Ontario native will race in the women’s 6k championship at 9:00 am at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park along with hundreds of the top distance runners from across the country.

The meet is available for stream via flotrack.org

HOW SHE GOT HERE

Lucki locked up her bid to the 2017 NCAA Championship after finishing seventh at the Mid-Atlantic Regional race at Lehigh University on November 10. Lucki earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season with her performance while posting the best-ever finish of a Maryland runner at the event on record. She was one of four runners from the Mid-Atlantic to earn an individual at-large bid.

She finished as Maryland’s No. 1 runner in every meet she competed this season, and was the No. 1 runner for the Terps in seven straight meets dating back to the 2016 campaign.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP history

Lucki is the first Maryland runner since the 2011 season to advance to the NCAA Championship meet. That year, Julie Fricke finished 150th individually in the field of 254. She covered the 6-kilometer national championship course in Terre Haute, Ind. in 21:24.0. Fricke was the first Terrapin woman to run in the cross country nationals since Rosalind Taylor in 1988.

ALL-AMERICAN CRITERIA

A top-40 finish at the meet will garner USTFCCCA All-American honors.
