COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men’s lacrosse senior midfielder Connor Kelly has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and faceoff specialist Justin Shockey has been named Freshman of the Week for their outstanding efforts in last weekend’s win against No. 8 Notre Dame.
The honor marks Kelly’s second Offensive Player of the Week nod of the season, and the first career honor for Shockey.
Kelly pieced together one of the greatest performances in Maryland’s prestigious history against Notre Dame, totaling 10 points on three goals and seven assists. He was just the third player in program history to record seven assists in a game, and the fourth player to reach 10 points. Both marks were last posted by Bob Boneillo in 1979.
Both Kelly’s 10 points and seven assists are single-game records for the four-year history of the Big Ten Conference.
Shockey was also impressive in his first career start at the faceoff dot, winning 15-of-22 faceoffs and picking up 11 ground balls. He was particularly special in the second half, when he won 10-of-11 faceoffs.
Kelly, Shockey and the Terps return to action Saturday at noon when they host No. 1 Albany at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
