OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Maryland men’s lacrosse senior goalkeeper Dan Morris has been named a Top-20 candidate for the collegiate lacrosse 2018 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the field.
Last year, Isaiah Davis-Allen became Maryland’s first-ever Senior CLASS Award recipient. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Morris recently graduated with a degree in psychology and a minor in leadership studies in May 2017 with a 3.6 GPA. He is currently pursuing a master of science in business and management. Morris is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a three-time academic all-conference recipient.
Morris has earned a bevy of accolades on the playing field, most notably leading the Terrapins to the 2017 National Championship as the starting goalkeeper. A 2017 Inside Lacrosse All-American, Morris was also named to the 2017 NCAA All-Tournament Team and Big Ten All-Tournament team for his excellent performances in postseason play.
A captain for the Terrapins, Morris is actively involved in community service and many on-campus organizations. He has served as the team’s community service director since 2015, while also being a member of several academic societies including the National Society of Leadership and Success.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in May.
