COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior second baseman Nick Dunn was selected in the fifth round (153rd overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals on day two of the 2018 MLB Draft Tuesday afternoon.
Dunn was selected after a sensational offensive campaign in which he led Maryland in average (.330), slugging percentage (.561), on-base percentage (.419), home runs (10), doubles (17), hits (70), runs (39) and RBIs (39). He led the team with 23 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games. His reached base streak of 22 games topped the team.
The Sunbury, Pa. native was named a second team All-American by Baseball American after earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. Dunn racked up 200 hits for his career; the 13th Maryland player to achieve that feat. He was a freshman All-American and third-team All-Big Ten pick as a freshman in 2016.
The 2018 MLB Draft continues Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
