Each week, will take a look at a Maryland women's soccer alum and what they are doing in their post Maryland life. This week is former goalkeeper Lindsay Simpson!

Years Played/Position: 2004-2006, Goalkeeper

Major: Spanish, US History; Master of Journalism (2013-2014)

Since Maryland: I worked in sales and marketing for a software development company right out of college before making my way back to UMD for my masters in journalism - focused on sports broadcasting. I worked for a few years as a sports reporter before making my way to a front office role with D.C. United. I’m currently the Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Broadcasting at D.C. United but am able to stay in the television game by also working as the field-side television analyst and sideline reporter for D.C. United’s television broadcasts.

Why Maryland: Why not Maryland? Everything you could ever want from a college experience is available right at your finger tips. Besides a top-rate education and a massive alumni network, you have all of the resources and advantages of a big school experience, but right in the heart of the DC metro area. D.C. draws exceptional talent and professors across the various colleges are frequently some of the brightest and best minds in their fields.

Advice for current players: Build a network! Even if you aren’t sure what you want to do, start trying to connect with professors, alumni, and anyone that you possibly can in fields that interest you. Internships are hard as a student-athlete, but talk to people, try to shadow people in various industries that interest you - don’t be shy!
