ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Skylynne Ellazar earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as announced by the conference offices Wednesday. Ellazar becomes the fifth Terrapin to garner All-Big Ten honors since Maryland joined the conference in 2015 after putting together a standout campaign on the diamond in her final season.
Ellazar started in every game for the Terps this season at second base, while leading the team in virtually every offensive category. She ranks first on the team in batting average (.319), runs (28), home runs (8), RBIs (23), slugging pct. (.525), on base pct. (.412) and stolen bases (7).
The Kahului, Hawaii native came through in clutch moments for the Terps this season, including a go-ahead home run to clinch the series vs. Penn State, and a solo shot against Iowa to help Maryland secure a sweep over the Hawkeyes. She also produced a two-home run day in Maryland’s final series of the regular season, knocking a pair of three-RBI homers against Michigan State on May 4.
Ellazar hit .310 in conference play, scoring 14 runs while knocking 15 RBIs. She will finish as one of the top hitters in program history, as her .333 career batting average ranks second on the Maryland the all-time list.
Junior Sami Main was named Maryland’s Big Ten sportsmanship award nominee. The Maryland softball team will begin play at the Big Ten Softball Tournament on Thursday, May 10 at approximately 1:30 pm.
