ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 14 Michigan scattered 12 runs over four innings to capture a 12-1 win over Maryland Saturday. Maryland (18-29, 7-9 B1G) totaled four hits on the day, including a solo shot from sophomore Brigette Nordberg, but couldn’t keep pace with the Wolverine offense.
Michigan raced out to a 2-0 lead after the first, using two hits and an error to go ahead early.
Sophomore Brigette Nordberg provided instant offense for the Terps in the top of the second, leading off the frame with a solo homer over the center field fence. It was Nordberg’s second homer of the year and just the third homer surrendered by Michigan pitcher Tera Blanco this season, cutting the Wolverine lead to one.
Fellow sophomore Amanda Brashear would manage a two-out double in the inning, but a ground out halted any further momentum from the Terps.
It was all Michigan from there, as the hosts plated 10 unanswered runs to lock up the victory.
Maryland will return to Alumni Field for the series finale tomorrow at 12:30 pm.
