COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland volleyball head coach Adam Hughes announced the addition of Allegra Rivas to the 2018 class on Tuesday.

"I got to know Allegra and her family very late in the recruiting process, but I couldn't be more excited she is now officially a Terp,” said head coach Adam Hughes. “She joins us after competing for one of the best club programs in the country. She's had the opportunity to compete in big matches and play against some of the top teams in the country and as a result she's turned into an elite libero. She's got great first touch and tremendous feel for the game. As a result of her experiences, I think she'll transition well into our program and I look forward to seeing what she can achieve here in College Park."

A native of Aledo, Tx., Rivas was named a Second-Team Max Preps All-American following her 2017 senior season at Aledo High School, where she recorded the second highest total in Texas with 1,122 digs and added 192 assists for the state semifinalist Bearcats. Rivas totaled 20 or more digs 33 times and 30 or more 10 times over her senior season. The libero was named the District 5A Defensive MVP and the Fort Worth Texas high school Super Team Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts last season.

In three years at Aledo High School, Rivas tallied 2,385 digs (5.7 per set), 286 assists (0.7 per set) and 126 aces (0.4 per set).

Rivas also plays club volleyball for Texas Advantage Volleyball out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area, competing on the 18 Black team.

Led by first year head coach Adam Hughes, Rivas will join a young, talented Maryland squad next year with fellow newcomers freshman Rainelle Jones and sophomore transfer Nicole Alford

Last season, Maryland hit numerous program milestones this season as the squad finished with an 18-14 record. The 18 wins are the most for the team since 2010, and the seven conference wins are the most for the squad since joining the Big Ten. Maryland upset two top-25 teams, earning the program's first-ever wins over Southern California and Purdue.
