COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Kevin Biondic hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth before recording the final out of the ninth on the mound to push the Maryland baseball team to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Northwestern at  Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium Sunday.

The Terrapins (14-14, 2-1 Big Ten) notched their second comeback win in as many days over the Wildcats (8-14, 1-5 Big Ten). Junior right-hander Hunter Parsons tossed seven innings of three-run ball in a no decision effort.

Maryland took the lead after the first pitch of the bottom half of the first. Junior Nick Dunn hit that pitch over the right field fence for his seventh home run of the season. Junior Marty Costes then singled and stole second before coming in on an AJ Lee single to right.

Parsons did not have his best stuff on the afternoon, but besides a three-run Wildcat third, put up zeros in his other six innings of work. Parsons worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth before three consecutive fairly routine innings to finish his outing.

After his first inning struggles, Jack Pagliarini shutdown the Terps offense until the eight. Costes singled through the left side to set up Biondic, who launched Pagliarini’s last pitch of the game over the left center field fence for a two-run homer.

Junior right-hander John Murphy, who had put up a scoreless eighth, got two outs in the ninth before Northwestern loaded the bases. Biondic entered and threw one pitch, which Connor Lind smacked into left field. Will Watson was able to make a sliding catch to deny a single and end the ballgame.

Watson added a pair of hits from the seven-hole in the lineup. Murphy’s victory was the first of his season and Biondic’s save was his second.

Maryland returns to action Tuesday afternoon as William & Mary comes to Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. Fans can follow the action live on BTN Plus or the Maryland Baseball Network.
