EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The Maryland women's tennis team (7-7, 1-2 B1G) picked up its fist Big Ten win of the season on Saturday, shutting out Rutgers, 7-0.

Maryland's top doubles duo of Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton led the way, each posting a 2-0 record on the day. The doubles win was their team-best tenth of the season, and was also their third Big Ten victory.

The Terps started the day on the right foot, picking up the doubles point for the 10th time this season. Maryland's third doubles pairing of Saya Usui and Arnelle Sullivan got the day started with a 6-2 win, but Rutgers responded with a 6-2 win at second doubles.

With Maryland needing a win at first doubles to clinch the point, Alexandrova and Stretton came through and pulled out a 7-6 win over Du and Muzik of Rutgers.

There was no looking back when singles play began, as the Terps rattled off six wins to cruise to a 7-0 victory.

Freshman Zoe Kulkarni got Maryland's first singles point of the day, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth singles. Stretton then put another point on the board for Maryland following her 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles.

Alexandrova then clinched the match victory for Maryland, winning 6-4, 6-1, at the top singles position.

The Terps then continued to put points on the board following the clinch, with Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka, Ekaterina Tour and Usui all winning in straight sets. Usui put the exclamation point on the match, winning her second and final set, 6-0.

Maryland will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 30 when it hosts Northwestern at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park.
