BY THE NUMBERS
1 - The No. 2 Maryland men's lacrosse team welcomes No. 1 Albany to Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium Saturday, marking the first "1-2" matchup in College Park since the Terps defeated No. 1 North Carolina, 16-6, in 1987. Maryland is 5-3 all-time in "1-2" matchups, including a 4-0 mark in the regular season.
2 - Maryland defeated Albany in two matchups last season, first in a 12-11 road thriller and then in the NCAA Quarterfinals, 18-9. The quarterfinal saw the Terps score 10 goals less than 20 minutes into the game, as Connor Kelly finished with a then-career-high five goals in the win.
3 - The Terrapins have trailed for just 3:13 of 300 minutes through five games this season. All of those minutes came when the Terps allowed the first goal of the game to both Marist and High Point. Maryland is outscoring opponents 22-8in the first quarter and 41-19 in the first half.
4 - Head coach John Tillman is 4-0 against No. 1 ranked teams during his tenure in College Park, including last season's 15-11 defeat of top-ranked Penn State. Tillman has also won seven straight games against teams ranked in the top-10.
5 - Senior midfielder Connor Kelly needs just five more goals to join the legendary Frank Urso (1973-76) as the only midfielders in Maryland history to score 100 career goals. Urso finished with 127 in his career. Kelly would be the 14th Terrapin overall to reach the 100-goal milestone.
10 - Senior Connor Kelly pieced together one of the greatest performances in Maryland history in the win against Notre Dame last weekend, totaling 10 points on three goals and seven assists. It was the first time since 1979 that both the points and assists totals were reached by a Terrapin (Bob Boneillo), and both are Big Ten single-game records.
12 - The Terrapins are currently riding a nation's best 12-game win streak dating back to April 22, 2017, which includes wins over eight ranked opponents. The program's longest win streak in history was an incredible 31 games spanning four seasons from 1954 to 1957.
15 - Freshman faceoff specialist Justin Shockey burst onto the scene last week against Notre Dame, winning 15-of-22 faceoffs and collecting 11 ground balls to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Shockey was particularly impressive in the second half, winning 10-of-11 draws.
69 - Maryland's man-up unit is currently converting at a 69-percent, which leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally. Jared Bernhardt, Connor Kelly and Logan Wisnauskas have each scored three man-up goals, which is tied for the Big Ten Conference lead.
101 - Head coach John Tillman currently ranks third in Maryland history with 101 coaching victories. Tillman's most recent victory pushed his winning percentage to .777, which moved him past Bud Beardmore (1970-80) for the best winning percentage for a Maryland coach in the NCAA era (1971-pres).
