COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland tennis head coach Daria Panova announced the addition of Anastasiia Gevel to the Maryland tennis program. Gevel is immediately eligible and will be able to compete this spring.
"We're excited to have Anastasiia join our program this spring," Panova said. "She's one of the top players coming out of Ukraine and has a wealth of international experience. I expect her to make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles lineups. Anastasiia is a great fit for our program with her commitment to improving both on the court and in the classroom."
Gevel comes to College Park from Kiev, Ukraine. The 5'10" freshman was successful in her native country, most notably earning an U-18 Ukranian national championship.
She also has a career-high WTA singles ranking of 1237 to go along with a doubles ranking of 1135 following a career of extensive international experience. Gevel was also a top-5 ranked singles player in Ukraine.
Gevel and the Terps will be back in action on Feb. 10 when they take on William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
