Bannister Claims Wilkes Open Title

WILKES BARRE, Pa. -- Redshirt junior Alfred Bannister won his second open of the season on Friday, winning the 149-pound championship at the Wilkes Open. Bannister had previously won at the Mat Town Open and also placed at the Princeton Tiger Open earlier this season. 

The La Plata, Maryland-native got his day off to a fast start with a win by fall just 30 seconds into his opening match. He then followed it up with another pin over Vincent Foggia of Drexel.

Bannister then won a close, 6-4 decision against Michael Sprague of American in his semifinal bout, and then took home the title with a 10-5 decision over Kent Lane of Lehigh. 

Bannister improved his season win total to 10 following his four wins and also moved into first on the team in pins with seven.
