#15 Terps Set Assist Record in Win Over Loyola

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman guard Channise Lewis had a personal-best 11 assists as the No. 15 Maryland women’s basketball team (10-3) had a program-record and Big Ten record 37 helpers in a 114-45 win over Loyola (2-8) Monday evening in the XFINITY Center.

The Terps broke the previous single-game assist record of 32, which was set on Nov. 30, 1999.

Five Terrapins finished in double-digit scoring against the Greyhounds: sophomore Blair Watson (24), junior Brianna Fraser (20), sophomore Kaila Charles (18), sophomore Stephanie Jones (16) and senior Ieshia Small (13).

Maryland had just six fouls in 60 minutes versus Loyola, which tied the second fewest amount in program history for a single game.

The Terps shot 61.3 percent from the field, including 58.8 from beyond the arc. 

Maryland built a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed its advantage to 54-20 at halftime. The Terrapins had 20 assists in the first half. 

The Terps had no turnovers in the third quarter and every player who dressed ended up on the scoresheet as Maryland pushed the lead to 80-34.

Maryland is ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press poll and tied with Duke (7-2) for No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Next, the Terrapins will take a break during final exam week. They will be back in action on Wed., Dec. 20 at Coppin State (1-9) in Baltimore. The Terps and the Eagles will tip off at 2 p.m. at the Eagles’ Physical Education Complex Arena. Junior guard Eleanna Christinaki will be eligible in the Coppin State game.
