The Maryland gymnastics team kicked off the season with the annual Red-Black intrasquad meet Friday evening.
“This is such an exciting team, one of the most exciting teams we’ve had,” head coach Brett Nelligan said. “They’re fun to watch, they’re high energy, they’re dynamic, so I’m excited to watch them continue to grow.”
The Terps showed consistency early in the season, posting no falls on beam and overall strong performances on the other events.
“It’s a very young team, so if this is where we are starting, I think the sky’s the limit,” Nelligan said. “I think they’re really resilient and tough. We’ve trained extremely hard this semester, and for them to come out here —it’s still early, it’s only December—and for them to look this good, I’m really impressed. It really goes back to all of that tough training.”
The meet featured former GymTerps Kelsey Cofsky and Sarah Faller as guest judges.
Maryland opens the 2018 season against Towson and Temple on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m at the Little Boston Invitational.
