TAIWAN – Senior Skylynne Ellazar will compete as a member of the Philippines National Team in the coming weeks as the squad gets set to participate in the Asian Softball Championships in Taiwan Nov. 28-Dec. 4. The top 3 teams in the tournament will qualify for World Championships this summer, while the top 5 will qualify for the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity and want to thank Coach Randy Dizer for helping me get involved with the team,” said Ellazar. “Coach [Victoria Hayward] also helped prepare me a lot before I left and I’m really looking forward to competing against some of the world’s best.”
The Kahului, Hawaii native previously played softball under the Philippine flag this past summer, when she participated in the Canada Cup International Softball Championships in July and the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Philippines finished the tournament with a two-game sweep of Mexico, where Ellazar went a combined 3-6 with a run scored to close out the World Cup.
