BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Maryland cross country team put together its best-ever finish at the Big Ten Championships Sunday, totaling a team-score of 257 to finish 10th. Once again, it was senior Alexandra Lucki (20:43.7) who paced the Terps, as she earned All-Big Ten honors with the best-ever finish for a Terrapin runner at the event.

Lucki steadily advanced herself to the top of the pack throughout the 6k race at the IU Championship Cross County course, as she was 40th in the field through the first 1000 meters. The Toronto, Ontario continued to build up to her 12th place finish, picking off runners as the race went on before moving up seven spots down the final 1000m. Lucki improved 19 spots from her 2016 finish at the event to capture Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

Junior Emily Bracher was the No. 2 runner for UMD, and also made a big jump for the Terps down the stretch. After checking in at 61st through the first 1000m, Bracher climbed the middle of the pack to eventually take 33rd with a mark of 21:22.0.

Sophomore Brittany Lang and freshman Christine Laurie were also key for the Terps, finishing in 71st (22:11.8) and 72nd (22:15.4) to help propel the squad to its 10th place finish. Freshman Molly Barrick was the final scoring runner for Maryland, crossing the line in 94th in 22:54.9.

Sophomore Paige Novak (23:12.8), freshman Courtney Mann (23:37.1) and sophomore Caroline Augelli (23:54.0) rounded out Maryland finishers at the meet.

Michigan claimed the women’s team title with a total of 55 points, followed by Minnesota (86) and Wisconsin (100). Indiana’s Katherine Receveur took home the individual title with a time of 20:10.3.
