PINEHURST, N.C. – The Maryland women’s golf team finished fourth out of 19 teams at the Pinehurst Challenge Tuesday on the Pinehurst No. 1 course in Pinehurst, N.C.

The Terrapins finished with a team score of 863 (285-286-292), which was one stroke under par overall. They finished four strokes behind Old Dominion.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t have as strong a finish today as we needed,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “The golf course gave us a lot of opportunities for birdies, we just didn’t quite convert enough. Overall, it was a decent finish for our young team. We are working hard to finish under par for three consecutive rounds.

Everyone contributed to our counting scores, which shows our depth in the lineup. We are going to work hard and get ready to head to San Antonio in a week and a half.”

Sophomore Xiaolin Tian and freshman Laura Van Respaille both finished tied for 12th in the individual standings with scores of 214, which was two-under. Tian shot a 71 in the first round, a 69 in the second and a 74 in Tuesday’s final round. Van Respaille shot a 68 in the opening round, and 73 in the final two rounds.

Freshman Virunpat Olankitkunchai finished tied for 30th with her score of 219 (74-71-74), which was +3. Junior Ludovica Farina tied for 38th with a five-over score of 220 (72-73-75).

Freshman Charlotte Lafourcade went one stroke under par with a 71 Tuesday for a score of 228 (81-76-71).

Next, the Terrapins will play in the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio, Texas Oct. 22-24.
