COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland lacrosse team, in unison with the softball, wrestling and women’s basketball programs hosted its Team IMPACT Walk Saturday morning on the campus of the University of Maryland.
The teams joined Maryland Athletics staff, family, friends and community supporters at Maryland Stadium for the second annual Terp Trot, with donations supporting Team IMPACT and its mission.
The Maryland men's lacrosse team originally partnered with Team IMPACT in 2015 and was quickly assigned its honorary teammate, Fionn Crimmins. Read more about Fionn's incredible journey with the lacrosse team here.
“It was an awesome morning and great turnout for this event,” said senior midfielder Connor Kelly. “Fionn became a part of our team when I was a freshman, so to see how the relationship has grown over the years has been amazing. His happiness and passion makes us better, so it was just a great way to start off a special weekend for our team.”
About Team IMPACT:
"We improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
We do this by drafting these courageous kids with local college athletic teams. Team IMPACT children are drafted onto the team and become an official member of the team from Draft Day through to Graduation. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child’s support team.
The child gains great strength, camaraderie and support and the student athletes are taught lessons about courage, resiliency and life perspective that they can’t learn in a classroom.
Through a structured relationship management methodology, we establish and cultivate these relationships to ensure a successful experience for the families and teams involved.
To ensure the highest quality relationship possible, tremendous effort is placed on both the match-up process and relationship management."
