ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman Laura Van Respaille of the Maryland women's golf team was named Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week Wednesday for her first career weekly honor.
In just her third collegiate tournament, Van Respaille finished four-under par to win the Nittany Lion Invitational tournament Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course. She shot a 212 (74-68-70) and finished two strokes ahead of the second-place finishers. She was four-under overall.
Maryland swept the team and individual titles at the Nittany Lion Invitational. The Terps topped the Nittany Lions by three strokes for the team win.
As a team, the Terps shot a 282 in Saturday’s second round, which was the lowest score of the tournament. They finished with an overall combined score of 863 (293-282-288), which was one-under par overall.
Van Respaille shares the weekly honor with Sarah Burnham from Michigan State.
Next, Maryland will compete in the Pinehurst Challenge Oct. 9-10 in Pinehurst, N.C.
