COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team competes in its final nonconference away weekend at the Thunder Invite this Friday and Saturday. The Terps will face Toledo (2-4), Virginia Tech (5-1) and host Marshall (2-6).
Maryland moved to 6-0 on the season and won the Liberty Invitational last weekend with wins over Liberty, Elon and Furman. Freshman outside hitter Erika Pritchard was named the tournament MVP after leading the Terps with 3.64 kills per set and 0.73 service aces per set. Sophomore outside hitter Gia Milana and junior libero Kelsey Wicinski were selected to the all-tournament team.
Wicinski has led Maryland's defensive unit this season and leads the Big Ten with 5.00 digs per set. Pritchard ranks third in the conference with 0.54 aces per set while redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers ranks fourth with 31 total blocks.
With an increase of talented arms, the Terps have improved their hitting percentage this season. Maryland is currently averaging a .291 hitting percentage, which ranks 17th nationally. The Terrapins have also limited opponents' offensive options effectively and are holding oppoinents to a .145 clip this season.
The Terps feature a young, talented roster in 2017. Maryland's freshman class is the program's first-ever top-10 recruiting class in program history while the Terps' sophomore class was ranked No. 16 in 2016.
