Gaskin appeared in all 114 sets and 32 matches last season. She ranked third on the team with 1.96 kills per set and second with 1.00 blocks per set. A native of Tampa, Fla., Gaskin trained and competed with the U.S. Collegiate National Team program in Minneapolis this summer.
"I am really proud of how Angel has developed as a player and a person," Aird said. "She has worked very hard on her game and it shows. Angel had a great experience training with the Collegiate National Team this summer and she is more than ready to lead."
Myers served a redshirt season in 2016 after seeing action in two sets. A native of Westerville, Ohio, she was a member of Maryland's 16th-ranked freshman class last year. Myers was a 2015 Under Armour Third Team All-American and was the No. 62 recruit in her class.
"Naming a freshman captain is unique, but that's exactly what Katie is," said Aird. "She has battled injury, worked hard all off season and is ready to go. Katie has an edge about her game that I love, and she is exactly the type of person I want to lead my program."
Maryland kicked off preseason with team meetings on Monday and began practices Tuesday morning. The Terps begin the 2017 season with the Maryland Invite on Aug. 25-26.
