NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Maryland men’s and women’s track and field programs were recognized for their academic success today as the teams were named to the All-Academic list by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. In order to receive the distinction and be in the running for Scholar Team of the Year, a team must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Maryland was one of 142 men’s teams and 218 women’s teams to receive the distinction. The men secured a 3.00 GPA for the 2016-17 season, while the women held a team GPA of 3.159.
The women improved from its team GPA of 3.08 from last season to again earn the honor for the fourth consecutive year.
The USTFCCCA will announce its 201617 Scholar Athlete honorees Friday.
