COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Julie Wright announced the addition of transfer pitcher Sydney Golden for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign Monday. Golden comes to College Park after two seasons at Cal State Fullerton, where she was named the 2016 Big West Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Golden will have two years of eligibility remaining, and will be eligible to play right away for the 2018 season.
“Sydney is a wonderful young lady and we are so excited for her to join our Terp family,” said Wright. “She is a highly talented pitcher with great experiences in postseason play. She will bring a very competitive spirit and will push our young players to reach a higher level. We are thrilled to have her.”
In addition to being named her conference’s freshman pitcher of the year in 2016, Golden garnered All-Big West First Team and NFCA All-West Second team honors. The Riverside, Calif. native held a 1.97 ERA that season, leading the Titans in wins (18) with 73 strikeouts in 138.2 innings. She also finished as a top 25 finalist for NFCA Freshman Player of the year honors.
Golden saw 80.0 innings of work this past season, winning seven times while notching 48 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA. Golden helped lead the Titans to two straight NCAA Regional appearances and two Big West Conference Championships during her time in Fullerton, and was an understudy of new Terrapin pitching coach Tori Tyson.
