ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Maryland women's basketball team will play at Virginia in the 2017 Big Ten/ACC Challenge Nov. 29 at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
This marks the 11th year of the Challenge. The Terrapins are 9-1 all-time in the Challenge, winning their first eight matchups. In the 2016 Challenge, No. 5 Maryland won at No. 7 Louisville, 78-72, on Dec. 1.
Virginia owns the all-time series over Maryland, 44-37, but the Terrapins have won five out of the last six matchups since 2012. The Terps are 7-2 at John Paul Jones Arena.
Virginia went 20-13 last season, advancing to the second round of the WNIT.
Maryland went 32-3 last year and won its third straight Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. The Terrapins advanced to their eighth Sweet Sixteen under head coach Brenda Frese.
The Big Ten and ACC conference offices determine the schedule each season. In addition, the official title of the Challenge rotates each year and the event will take place through the 2020 season. The 2017 event will be referred to as the Big Ten/ACC's Basketball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the two conferences' Challenge agreement for men's basketball and softball.
The ACC earned last year's Challenge title by a 9-5 count after the Big Ten and ACC played to 7-7 ties during the previous two seasons.
Game times, as well as television and streaming video coverage, for this year's Big Ten/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge will be announced at a later date. The complete schedule of home/away matchups can be found below.
