COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland celebrated graduation with several student-athletes over the past week prior to this spring's commencement ceremonies. A reception was held May 11 to recognize student-athletes as they prepare for this memorable accomplishment. Student-athletes also posed for a group photo on the XFINITY Center steps with Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson.
“This is the best day of the year for me,” said Anderson. “It is a special time to see our student-athletes' hard work and dedication rewarded as they earn their degrees. We're excited and proud to celebrate this milestone with you, and wish you continued success in your future personal and professional endeavors. You are all Terps for life.”
A total of 81 student-athletes will earn their degrees this spring. The graduating class includes student-athletes from all 18 teams and 33 members of their respective sport's all-conference academic teams.
“It just feels special,” said Isaiah Davis-Allen of the men's lacrosse team. “It feels like things have gone by so fast, but it has been a process. Just an exciting time to earn my degree that I've worked hard for.”
“It's such an honor to earn my degree,” said Sarah Faller of the gymnastics team. “I knew coming here that it was going to be an amazing experience, but I never imagined just how amazing it would be. Looking back on the last four years in incredible. Being a student-athlete has meant so much to me. It means so much to graduate from Maryland and have all these amazing people to come back to. I feel so at home knowing I'll always be a Terp.”
University of Maryland College/Department commencement ceremonies will begin May 20 with the Main Commencement Ceremony held at XFINITY Center on May 21.
