TEMPE, Ariz. – Maryland women's tennis head coach Daria Panova was named the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday.

Panova's honors come on the heels of guiding the Terps to their most successful season in program history. The fifth year head coach led the team to a spring-high 16 wins, as well as a program-best seven conference victories. She also earned her 50th career win at Maryland and brought the Terps to a No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament for the second consecutive season.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to receive this award,” Panova said. “I want to share it with the team because I wouldn't have been in this position without their hard work and dedication to get better every day. It is a great honor to represent Maryland and our program.”

The ITA also announced that senior Kristina Hovsepyan received the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.

Hovsepyan was an integral part of Maryland's success this season. The Danville, California native earned seven singles wins and nine doubles victories in her senior campaign. In the fall, she advanced to the ITA National Indoor tournament after winning the Atlantic Regional tournament with senior partner Alexandra Stanova.

“I am very proud of Kristina,” Panova noted. “She gave a lot to our program in her four years both on and off the court. She is the definition of a leader and I could not think of anyone more deserving of this award.”

The ITA national award winners will be released on May 23.
