COLLEGE PARK, Md. – For the second season in a row, the University of Maryland men's lacrosse team has been selected as the number one overall seed for the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship.
The Terps, which received an automatic bid by winning the Big Ten Tournament, will play the winner of MAAC Champion Monmouth and NEC Champion Bryant on Sunday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
The Terrapins (12-3) are making their 40th NCAA Tournament appearance, and NCAA-best 15th straight. Maryland also secured its NCAA-best 15th consecutive 10-win season.
Maryland is 2-0 all-time against Bryant, including a 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal victory over the Bulldogs. The Terps have never met Monmouth.
This marks the seventh time Maryland has been the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, and first time in back-to-back seasons since 1974. Maryland was also the top seed in 1972, 1973 (NCAA Champions), 1974, 1976, 1987 and 2016.
The Terps have been to five NCAA semifinals in six seasons (2011-12, 2014-16) under head coach John Tillman, including four national title game appearances. Maryland was unseeded in 2011 and 2012, the 7-seed in 2014 and the 6-seed in 2015.
The winner of the Maryland's first round game will meet either No. 8 seed Albany (America East Champion) or North Carolina (ACC Champion) in the quarterfinals the following weekend in Newark, Del.
