COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland softball wrapped up its 2017 campaign Sunday as Wisconsin captured a 5-0 victory on the final day of Big Ten regular season play.
The Badgers took command early, scoring four runs on four hits to open up the game in the first inning. The visitors would tack on insurance in the third with a run, while Kaitlyn Menz allowed just four hits in the contest to earn her 22nd victory on the year.
Jordan Aughinbaugh, Sarah Calta, Hannah Dewey, Kristina Dillard, Madison Martin and Juli Strange caught a ceremonial first pitch from their parents prior to the start of the game, as the six seniors played in their final collegiate softball game.
The Terps end their 2017 slate 11-39-1 and 4-19 in the Big Ten. Maryland earned three wins over ranked opponents on the year, the most since in the 2010 season, including a historic upset of No. 1-ranked Florida on February 18.
Maryland will return a solid core of young talent to the fold next season, while welcoming six newcomers to College Park.
