COLUMBUS – Senior Matt Rambo totaled five points on three goals and two assists as the No. 2 Maryland men’s lacrosse team fell in overtime, 11-10, to No. 7 Ohio State Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium.

Junior Tim Rotanz added four points, including his third consecutive hat trick, while Tim Muller and Nick Brozowski combined for five caused turnovers.

Trailing, 10-8, with less than six minutes to play, the resilient Terps (9-3, 3-1) fought back with a pair of goals to force overtime. Rambo scored the first to draw within one – his 30th of the season – before feeding freshman Jared Bernhardt for the equalizer.

Rotanz tallied all four of his points less than 20 minutes into the game, tying his career-high.

After Rotanz and OSU attackman JT Blubaugh exchanged goals to open the game, the Terrapins went on a 5-0 run to build a 6-1 advantage with 10:26 to play in the second quarter. The run included fantastic defense from Maryland, which caused five turnovers in the span.

Rotanz added two goals in the 5-0 run, while Connor Kelly, Dylan Maltz and Rambo also tallied scores during the run.

Ohio State finally ended its scoring drought after 17 minutes of action, but Maltz found the back of the net again to put the Terps ahead, 7-2. The Buckeyes then added two goals at the end of the half to cut their deficit to three goals, 7-4.

The Buckeyes went on a 4-0 run of their own to open the second half, before Rambo tied the game, 8-8.

It marked Maryland’s first regular season road loss since the inception of the Big Ten Conference in 2015 – a streak of six straight wins.

The Terrapins conclude regular season play next week when they host Johns Hopkins for #TheRivalry Saturday night at 8 pm.
