RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Weber State (11-10) used 12 hits to scatter six runs while limiting Maryland to just six hits as the Wildcats came out ahead 6-2 in the Terps’ Highlander Classic finale Sunday. Senior Juli Strange managed two hits and a run in the game at Amy S Harrison field, but the Maryland offense couldn’t find rhythm as the team drops to 4-18-1 on the year.

Weber State opened up the scoring in the second inning, as a triple from leadoff hitter Takesha Saltern scored a runner from first. A three-run homer in the third inning would push the Wildcat lead to 4-0, before pitcher Madison Martin got the Terps out of the inning.

Anna Kufta provided UMD with an opportunity to score in the fourth, knocking her first career triple deep to center field. The Terps couldn’t bring her home, as a double play after an Ellazar single ended the frame.

The Terps got on the board in the sixth, after Amanda Brashear reached base with a leadoff single. An outfield error would eventually score her from third, but Maryland couldn’t keep the momentum rolling as a fly out ended the inning.

Another leadoff hit turned into a run in the seventh, after Strange roped a double into left field. A RBI single from Brigette Nordberg would bring her in, but that’s all the Terps would muster as the team ended the weekend 1-3 at the Highlander Classic.

UMD will return to action on Friday, March 17 for two games at the Maryland Invitational.
