COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Micha Powell of the Maryland track and field team earned Second Team All-American Honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday after finishing ninth in the field of the 400 meter prelims.

Powell just missed out on a spot in the finals with a mark of 52.78 in her heat, a little over a hundredth of a second off the last finals qualifying spot. The Ontario, Canada native finished as the top Big Ten runner in the event, beating out Purdue’s Brionna Thomas (53.17) and Minnesota's Emerald Egwim (53.80).

Powell came on late to finish second in her heat, passing Cameron Pettigrew (USC) down the stretch to cross the line in 52.78. Powell improved four spots on her initial 13-seed in the event with her ninth place finish.

Powell has now earned Second Team All-American honors for the second straight indoor season after finishing 12th in the 400 last year. She and the rest of the Maryland track team will gear up for the outdoor season beginning Saturday, March 18 at the Maryland Invitational.
